June 16th 2006--She's Here!

Lindsay was born one week early! We mom's love it when that happens! The delivery was induced by Dr. Scott Peterson at UVRMC in Provo, Utah because he was worried about Mom's blood pressure. Of course the morning (6:00 am) of the delivery, Mom's vitals were perfectly normal! We began the procedure with Prostin, a gel to soften the cervix that worked for all our previous babies. All it did this time was make Mom way uncomfortable. After eight hours of that, we decided to try "Pit." That seemed to be the ticket! From that point on it felt like Lindsay put her foot to the gas pedal--and in the process broke Mom's water! We had to stall her delivery until Dr. Peterson could get to the hospital. She was so cute and tiny (for us)--20 inches long and 7 lbs 7 oz. A "pop" was heard as she was delivered, but all seemed to be fine in the check up. Later (two weeks later) we realized she'd broken her collar bone! Maybe that's why she's crying so much as they put that shirt on her. She also had bruising and swelling around her left eye when she was born. We figured it was all part of her rapid departure from the womb--she was in a big hurry! I think we'd kept her waiting long enough!

Grandpa and Grandma Barrett came to "ooh" and "aah" and "coochie-coo". Grandpa and Grandma Clarke had to miss it because they were on their mission in Malaysia. They missed 5 babies being born during their 18 month mission!

Unfortunately, three days after we were home from the hospital Lindsay's eye was red and inflamed. We took her to Dr. Peterson's and he sent us directly to the hospital for IV antibiotics and testing. Aunt Wendy came to help Mom understand what the doctors and nurses were doing and reassure me that all was going to be okay. It was a real blessing to have her around, especially since Grandma was gone. After several consultations with several doctors, prayer, and discussion we agreed to have Dr. Cook operate to drain Lindsay's tear duct. (I know it seems like we made a big deal out of nothing, but the doctor thought it could be a whole host of things initially!) It was clogged and swollen up behind her eye. The operation was successful and Dr. Peterson and Dr. Cook were our heroes! Mom and Dad did their best to hang in there, but Lindsay was a real trooper!

Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Barrett for taking care of the other kids. Lindsay went into the hospital on Dad's Birthday (June 21st), but we were able to slip away from the hospital for a bit to have a little party of Brick Oven Pizza that night at Grandpa and Grandma's. Daddy was even able to work and even run in his annual Wasatch Back Race that Friday and Saturday!

Dad got a blister early on in his race. Ouch! He kept us posted at the hospital. We cheered him on from there! Go Daddy! Go!

Mom and Lindsay came home from the hospital on the 24th of June. We were so happy to be home and have our Lindsay back with us--all better!

She is so sweet!

She folds right up! Good snuggler!

Look at those legs! Watch out Alli!

Easy Calvin! Arggh! Maybe a little too much love!

It's easy to see we are thrilled to add Lindsay to our family!
